History of the Civil Appellate High Court

Strengthening the efficiency of the civil justice system in Sri Lanka.

Establishment of the Court

The Civil Appellate High Court of Negombo is a provincial appellate court in Sri Lanka established under the High Court of the Provinces (Special Provisions) Act No. 19 of 1990 as amended by Act No. 54 of 2006[cite: 7]. It handles civil appeals from the District Courts within its judicial zone, operating out of the modern court complex in Negombo[cite: 7].

Formed to decentralize appellate powers from Colombo, the Court exercises appellate and revisionary jurisdiction over decisions delivered by primary and district courts across the region, alleviating case delays and ensuring prompt legal redress[cite: 7].
